Hey there. I know I haven't been around a lot and I'm really sorry about that. Part of it's been due to getting my feet wet writig other things,
new projects like the Shipped First Class zine, and the fact that poverty has forced me to take a second job.
The latter is the reason for my post. Some Rescue is hosted on Yahoo, thru a paid version of Geocities. When I upgraded from the freebie to a paid site, they had lots of different options in terms of size/storage and price, and we had one of the lower-cost options. About six months ago or so, they did away with the small and medium service options, and we're now being billed the ridiculous price of $12.95 per month. I know there are lower-cost options out there, and I'll be researching them...and if anyone has any suggestions I'm all ears. What I need is an option like Geocities that doesn't require me to know any coding and has a pretty idiot-proofed control panel.
Researching this is going to take time, something I don't have a lot of any more with two jobs and still not making the ends meet. And when I finally do find something, it'll also probably take time to migrate from one place to the other. To be honest I'm not even really sure how that works. So for now if I want a website and to keep the Embassy open, I'm stuck with Yahoo.
In the meantime, the site is down. The credit card they were charging every month is maxed. I was going to switch tomy debit card, but that's missing...I couldn't find it when I went to update my account. I've finally given up on the notion that it's still around the house somewhere and has been lost or stolen, so it's gonna take a little time to replace it. For now, though, I hae no card for Yahoo to bill, which means no site until I do. They do not offer other payment options, otherwise I'd simply do an electronic check or something.
Still, I have to be honest and say this isn't the first time the site's gone down due to finances. Before it's only been for a day or two, but I can't promise how soon I can get it back up this time as I have to wait for the arrival of a new card. Either way, the economy has been hitting me and my business hard, and I just don't have the money to spread around like I used to. I swore I'd never do this, but this is what it's come to: if anyone would like to make a donation to help keep the site open via paypal, you can do so by using my old email address cairo666@hotmail.com. Even just a buck or two helps.
Thanks for your patience and understanding. Sorry if I've let anyone down.
